Velospec High Strength Steel Tubing

In 2020, Rodriguez Bicycles paired with a company we've worked with for decades to come up with a replacement for the True Temper Platinum tubing. The resulting product is called Velospec.

Velospec high performance, high strength, heat treated steel that is designed for top-end performance and lightweight frame designs. This tubing undergos DOM methods for better tube tolerances and structure. Composed of "air-hardening" characteristics from its chemistry, this special alloy has the ability to quickly harden/strengthen TIG-welded zones during its cool down. For additional strengths especially for thin wall profiles, the tubes undergo a heat treatment that raises tensile strength up to 1200 MPa which counters material fatigue and external impacts.

At Rodriguez, we've been building with this type of ultra-light steel tubes for years now, and I think you'll find the ride characteristics to be amazing. The price of a hand-crafted Rodriguez Velospec frame is less than most custom builders sell their generic labeled, heavier 'cro-moly' frames for.
